You have to have a "taste" for good food.
People have taste buds that are warped by MSG and NutraSweet and sugar in everything, they don't appreciate the subtleties of truly good food.
Even a small amount of these additives can change the way your taste buds act.
What are you tasting??? Is it worth it to you to taste real food and give up the frankenfoods?

Differences
It is amazing to me we can not appreciate the likeness because we can't get past the differences.
Hopefully we can come to love those who are the most like us.

God loves YOU!
And where ever you are today, what ever problems you have, God will use them for good, if you trust his love.

Understanding
The meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
It is okay to disagree, everyone has their own thoughts and processes.
Getting along with others is a virtue especially when you don't understand where they are coming from.
So take a stand to be understanding when it doesn't make sense to you. This is one way to give of yourself and God rewards those who give.

Lights
Who are you shining your light on?
Are you making a difference in the world today?
It only take a simple little deed.
Isn't that what we are here for?

Getting Healthy?
Just an observation for those who heed and use all the traditional healthy hype being thrown at you today and in the past couple years.
We are healthier in the last 30 years????
Tell me where!

Tell me where!

Good ingredients
If it is worth my time it is worth the best ingredients I can get. Right?
Find out the hard way. I have been having great success with my sourdough bread.
The kids love it, it is the only bread Bill eats. It is easy to make, looks good, has a great crumb.
I have made it several times, using up all of the product I had received when I took my class.
This week I made it with product I had here, you pillsbury, gold medal, I had mixed the different brands together, made three canisters so I had unbleached flour, whole wheat and bread(high gluten)flour.
I made it the day before yesterday, we like the texture better if I let it in the frig overnight so I baked it last night.
It feels like bricks. It looks awful.
Thank goodness I have some in the freezer. I also had made a trip to New Hampshire on MOnday to replenish my supple of "GOOD PRODUCTS"

Wilderness
Somehow, everyone I know is living with the wilderness mentality.
How is your life going?
Are you being proactive? Changing your mindset? Making changes to benifit you?
Stop living in the wilderness, walk your way out of there.

whole some foods
Was taught another lesson yesterday. Went to a crop and ate mostly only what I had brought.
Did partake in some boughten lunch meat, lettuce, fruit, meat sticks, and trail mix.
I ingested some kind of wheat product. Fought off the urge to eat the peanut butter cookies. Wanted one so bad. Knew what the consquences would be so didn't eat one.
Chocolate brownies ummm, nope not me I was good, or at least thought I was being good.
But the night proved the point something had wheat, or wheat starch, or gluten or whatever it is that makes me ill. Causes severe stomache cramps and other problems that would be TMI.
I choose not to eat many products just because, but the wheat is a real health issue with me.
Please understand that I will be eating no more products form others, I will be checking all and any food labels for ingredients before consuming.
Not trying to be difficult. Don't want you to cook for me. I will take care of me. Just don't take offense when I tell you NO THANK YOU!

Had a great time cropping at the Crop for Life, it was a very nice, organized, crop.
Nice positive time with good friends.
Wonderful to have so much fun, accomplish a lot and also support cancer research.
Congrat to Kathy she won a great little Vera Bradly basket.

Weston Price Foundation
The WPF meeting will be held on Monday evening, April 11. It is held at the Grace Church, on Wells St in Country Club. The meeting starts promptly at 7 P.M. The doors open at around 6:30 and you can purchase products from local vendors.
This months meeting is discussing GMO's. If you are not aware of this practice and the effects it is having on our food system, nutrition and your health this meeting will be a good lesson.
Please if you can carve an hour or two out of your month, this meeting will be an eye opener for you.

Castoreum
Do you eat anything vanilla flavored. If so check the ingredients. If castoreum is listed you are eating anal glands from beavers.
Isn't it wonderful what the FDA approves.
I thought the crushed beetles for red dye was bad.
I will certainly make sure I am using vanilla and not vanilla flavoring.

Rough Childhood?
You know, sometimes, the funniest stuff will stick with you and come back to haunt you at the most inopportune moments.
I can understand parental hangups lingering long past what should have been their expiration date.
It is our responsibility to get over them.
Your parents would have done better if they new better.
Disipline in those days was totally different than today.
Sometimes it seems like we should go back to those days.
The only improvement is that today we do consider the differences in personalities when giving out disispline.
Are you really raising better adults then what we are?
Do you realize you are not raising kids, you are raising adults. That more than likely you will not out live them.

Conserving
How are you conserving your energy?
Today I am talking about gas.
If you don't already realize. Obama isn't behind the gas prices.
We have been being primed for higher fuel prices for years.
For years the price goes up we protest, the price goes down to just a bit above what we consider normal and stays there. Repeat
Today if you saw gas at $3.30 a gallon you would think you had a bargain.
Tomorrow (in the future) you will feel that $4.00 a gallon is a bargain.
Get it? They want it to be a bargain at $5.00 a gallon. It will get there.
Prepare.

Nourishing Eating
On my quest for eating healthy. I have been trying to follow the WAP guidelines and also looking at the "fad" information on Paleo living and eating. I know that I feel much better when I eat natural foods with less interference from man when they are grown. But I did find this information on line this week and think it talks to all of us. Now this only works if we are honest with ourselves, which most of us don't do any more. I have read and heard all the diet recommendations, I have seen people (myself included) waste money on the latest or traditional ways to lose weight. I have heard people say they have success and I don't see it. I just see most of us still unfit, over weight or obese, unhappy, negative, gossipy, looking for the worst. People unwilling to take a chance, do something different. CHANGE. I see people relying on medications so they can control their feelings.
Where does responsibility start and stop. Take control. Figure out you. Ask God for help everyday. Get off as many drugs as possible. Work to reduce those that are absolutely necessary. Spend time with yourself. Learn to love YOU. Words are powerful, complement YOU many times per day.
And remember alos, no one thing works for all.
"I think a really important thing to remember is this: no one knows what is best for your body except you. Yes, information and guidance are useful in making good decisions, but the bottom line is yours to decide on. No one else's.
The cookbook Nourishing Traditions was written by two women, Sally Fallon and Mary Enig. They are very intelligent, educated and thoughtful researchers who have laid out some guidelines for us. The WAPF board is a few more people, also laying out guidelines. None of them are masters, gurus, or infallible experts. They are people who have done their research and offered their findings to us to use as we see fit.
People are worried about how different foods are going to effect them... are nightshades poisonous? Is coffee bad for me? Will eating grains make me sick? No one knows the answer to those questions except you (and your medical professional, perhaps). All foods effect our body systems in various ways and only you can tease apart the variables to figure out what is right for you. Remember, people can die from drinking too much water and other people live long, healthy lives eating frozen dinners and twinkies - nothing is 100% good and nothing is 100% bad.
I think Sam's comment that there are a number of foods that most people handle just fine while others have trouble with them is good advice. Grains are a great example of this phenomenon. Humans have eaten grain foods all over the world for thousands of years but there is rock solid evidence that some people, modern and historical, have much improved health from avoiding them. The same is true of nightshade vegetables. And many, many people in this world make the same argument about meat and dairy. :)
What works for you? If you have a gut feeling that you might not tolerate some food thing, give it a try to eliminate it for a couple weeks. How do you feel? If you feel better and the avoidance isn't a hardship, then keep refraining. Otherwise, weigh your options and make a decision.
As for the olive oil - people around the Mediterranean have cooked with olive oil for thousands of years and lived to tell the tale. Extra virgin olive oil, the first pressing, is a special and delicious thing that is best raw because it tastes best raw. Other types of olive oil are a traditional cooking oil in many cultures. I do most of my cooking in animal fat or refined coconut oil, but sometimes I use olive oil for the taste. I believe the researchers who say that monounsaturated oils are fragile and should be treated carefully and am interested in more information in this topic from sources other than WAPF.
Good luck on your search for the answers for your own self. Let us know what you decide or what you find on these topics. This is why we are here, to share with each other and encourage each other. But we each have to make our own decisions"
