The calm before the storm!

Are you prepared?
How do you prepare?

Does it stress you out when we get a forecast like this?

It didn't use to bother me, as long as the pantry and freezer was stocked, a little snow isn't a huge deal.

Then we lost electricity for a week. Others were out much longer. It seemed like forever, we live in the country so water is connected to the power. In a week your freezer thaws, you can't keep your fridge cold, the house can't stay warm, cause the blower on the furnace doesn't work. You can't clean cause no water, you can't watch tv and use your computer.
How spoiled are we. I am preparing, I am stopping at the library for a couple good books. I am filling a couple jugs with water and taking a long hot bath this afternoon.


It looks like maybe we will get the snow and not so much ice. And ice is what causes the power outages out here. (at least in the past).
So pray for the saftey for all of those who will be affected.

Enjoy the calm before and remember again this storm shall pass.

Do you know what you are eating?

Do you? Do you care?
Does it matter where it is grown? or what it is feed?

How do you determine the quality? or is it just the quantity and price that matters?


The government is not your friend in this. There is not enough of them to do quality control from imports. Only about 2 percent is tested. Not very much is tested if grown in the US either.

Cows should eat grass, chickens - bugs, pigs - nuts, fish-other fish, they shouldn't all eat corn.

Thanksgiving to New Year

Do you pay attention to all the hype on how to eat correctly during the 6 weeks or so over the holidays?
Do you follow all the info on how we should not eat this or we will gain that.

Maybe we do need to eat healthy thru the holidays, but we really should be watching more between New Years and Christmas than watching it so much between Christmas and New Year.

Concerning!

How many of you have children or grandchildren from broken homes?
How are they doing?

Something I realized is that some that I know, no longer have a home.

They go to mom's or dad's but they don't go home.

How sad is that? Do they feel that way, really?

They don't go home for the holidays, they don't go home.

Praying

Praying that I can answer the questions asked by my loved ones.

That the other words I utter will give comfort to the family of those whom are dealing with a terrifically terrible disease.

Hoping if it is the end, that he will go fast and not suffer more pain.

How hard it is to understand God's plan when they seem so young to lose the battle.

Please Jesus, give us peace and give comfort to Jake.

The past year I received a really nice crossstitched picture, a beautiful knitted scarf.

If a self absorbed teenager can learn a healthy eating lesson from just one movie, where could you be in a year if you took seriously where your food comes from, the nutritional benifit from it and stopped putting their poisons in your gut.

For Real?

Most of you that know me, know that I have spent the better part of the last several years concerned with my weight and health.
While I have won some battles and lost some battles I continue to learn.

Until 5 years ago the only exersice I ever subscribed to was dancing. I hate sweating, I hate muscle pain have never understood the no pain no gain philosiphy.

While exploring this avenue, I have found two things I enjoy, pumping iron and yoga. I also walk a lot and run a little.

While learning yoga, I also have been exposed to some oriental health. One of the things I was reminded of is how easy it is to find out whether you should use or consume an item.

A simple free test, easily done, that will allow you to only choose healthy items for YOUR body.

I was first taught this test, when James was diagnosed with allergies. (about 30 years ago) Before they did the prick test on the back. Before the drew blood.

It is about 90 percent accurate also.

Ask me about it the next time your see me. It does take two people. But it is really so easly.

Sugar

I gave up sugar for lent...oh yeah it's not lent yet is it?

Oh well, I am not eating any sugar right now, and I still am comsuming more sugar than I should. I am not eating package foods, I eat yogurt, berries, vegetables, chicken, turkey, fish, apples, oranges. And I consumed 28 grams of sugar yesterday.
That was with 2 PLAIN yogurt servings, and 2 fruit servings.
I know it is better for you if you sugar comes from natural foods and not added sugar but gosh.
I use to drink a pepsi a day. I use to eat a chocolate bar a day or maybe I would choose a chocolate cupcake. Granted that was many years ago. Brownies yeah they are my favorites or use to be.

Now all of that is too rich, too sweet.

And the American Cancer Society recommends 6 teaspoons of added sugar to your diet a day.
If I am not mistaken a tsp is 4 grams, and 16 calories.

So how much ADDED sugar do you eat a day.

Remember this is the sugars added to the mixes, and bottled dressings, and bread, and flavored yogurt, and desserts and such.

I can I beleive that report today, when yesterday the research said differently?

Yep confusing.

Sometimes they confuse us on purpose.
Sometimes just by error.

But it is worth your time to find the answers for YOU, because you are your best advacote.
It is your life, your body, your health. Do not let anyone decide for you, not your doctor, not your friends, not the industry. Research, speculate, decide.

sick again

It seems this winter I just can't get over this cold. I started with swollen glands back in November and have never really gotten completely well.
Now I have sore throat, swollen glands, sinus pain, congestion, cough. Just go away please.

Government Recommendations

Do you realize how much the government controls your life? How quickly somebody picks up on the financial gains of those recommendations?

Perfect example is Fluoride.

Government recommends we put this in our water, it prevents tooth decay. A little helps a lot couldn't hurt. WRONG.
This is a mineral, minerals build up in your body. They cause havoc if you are retaining too much.
It is very difficult to remove them once they have taken hold.

Seen the new recommendations for fluoride this week?
Just another screw up.
Health food gurus have been preaching this for years.

Think before fall under the advertisements recommendations. Research.

A thread on two peas has me thinking about my hoarding of food and how little my children keep their homes well stocked.

So do you think it is necessary to keep your pantry filled, your freezer? How long could you live off the food you have stored? How about your children, have you ever discussed it with them?

Many scrapbookers are LDS so most of them do have food storage.

Resolutions

Seems like everybody in the whole world is resolving to loose weight this week.

The Y is super busy, Biggest loser contests all over the place. (Seems this might be the area you could make your fortune)

How are you going to win, making sure you don't loose the ability to focus on making this year your best year ever.

Take control over your life, don't let it fail because you haven't made a plan.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. MAKE IT COUNT! Regardless of what your resolutions are make them work.

Interpretations?

I have certainly notice that one of my disabilities with aging is my vocabulary.

I sometime hear things as one thing when the person speaking is meaning something totally different.

The new terminology that I have learned in the recent past years often escape my brain or my mouth.

What someone else learns from the new word is not always what they mean to say to you.

Confusing isn't it.
