Just one Bite.

The banquet is in the first bite.
When there is something being served that you just love, but know you don't need. Take just a bite or two and savior the bliss.
Stop you can have it again in a few days or weeks.

Children?

When children will not eat good, nutritous quality food, do we feel it is better to feed them edible non food items, rather than nothing at all.

Do you realize even if they are thin, you are building a non healthy body that will have obesity healthy problems in the future.

The body craves what it always has had, so if they only know those bad food products, that is what they crave. If you take them away they will eventually eat good food, they will not starve, they will consume real quality foods.

Eat Slowly

Eat slowly, enjoy your food. Chew your food.

The above all help with digestion. It also helps you to eat proper portions. If you eat slowly and consult your gut on how much it really needs or wants you to consume.

Your eyes are bigger than your stomach

We use many visuals to determine the amount of foods we eat and drink.
Consult your gut and stop when you are just about full. Not stuffed, but full.

Why do we feel it is just fine to be stuffed, miserable, can't take another bite, but we feel we are so deprived when we eat less, are a little hungry.

Think about go around a little hungry for a week instead of a little stuffed.
You will be amazed at your energy and how much better your acid reflex will be.

Hunger or Boredom

Eat when you are hungry, not when you are bored.

Easier said than done when you are constantly bombarded with food.

Case in point. When do we ever get together anymore that everyone feels they need to bring a dish. Yep that is nice so the hostess does not need to fix it all. But **it happens and what if someone can't come at the last minute and you were counting on their food to round out the menu. . So the hostess covers the food group, does enough to feed an army, the guests come and bring a dish and everyone eats a little of everything and then snacks on the "buffet" for remainder of the evening. Way too much, not hunger, because it is there, because you need something to do with your hands, because you are bored. Did you eat enough to satisfy your hunger, or enough to satisfy your mind.

We are ridiculous!

We really will get "enough" to eat if we stick to one protein, one vegetable, one starch and one fruit. Add a dessert and you have enough.

Hunger

Eat when you are hungry not when you are bored.

Be aware of why you are eating. Most times when we eat it is not from hunger.

Do you even know what hunger is.

Have you had to fast recently for a blood test or any medical test?
If not maybe try a fast for 12 or 24 hours just to see what the different levels of hunger are.

If we eat when we are truely hungry we will acheive our ideal body weight.

Hunger really won't kill you, it really does not even harm you. You can live many years on the edge of hunger.

Stop

Just stop eating before you are full. Statistics show we should stop when we are 67 to 80 percent full.

In France they say: "J'ai faim". I'm hungry. When finished they say: "Je n'ai plus faim" I have no more hunger.

That is different than I am full or stuffed. Stop when you have satiety. You are only a few seconds away from food. Fuel for your body. Yes enjoy your food, but don't depend on it for entertainment or to satisfy you other types of hunger.

and again EAT LESS

Stop eating way before you are full. There is much research that calorie restriction slows aging. Even if you are not overweight you need to eat less. We have an abundance of food. We don't need to eat the amounts we eat.

Eating less is the strongest link between diet and cancer prevention.

Use moderation, and remember we are supersized, our food, our drinks, our bodies. So when you think moderation think what we consider normal is not.

Look at serving sizes

Eat Less

Yep thats all just eat less. You really will not starve. You really won't sabotage your metabolism.

Who decided and developed and endorse the popular diets today. Check it out.

Buy quality not quanitity

Buy less food and spend more. Why are we eating junk. I am not just talking about junk food. But JUNK food. Why do we eat things that we don't love. We need to buy the best quality foods we can find and consume less rather than buying the cheapest we can afford and consume more.

Part of the reason for the obesity in our society is our bodies are craving nutrients. Nutrients that are so hard to find in America's food supply. Our food is heated and irradiated and genetically engineered and given anti biotic and sprayed with insecticide and ect ect ect. It is so altered that our children do not even recognize real food.

Have your kids ever eaten a chicken leg. No chicken doesn't have bones or even skin.
What about having a seed spitting contest. You know what you do with watermelon seeds. No watermelons don't have seeds, and they are personalized. Remember when it was difficult to pick up a watermelon.

Please eat quality!

Eating

How should I eat?
(Not too much)

Actions

Remember that your actions always effect others. Please think about the cause and affect of what you do. How your actions even if unintended will effect those that love you.

Toy Story

Went to see Toy Story today, It is really cute.
But if you see it you will never throw a toy away again. Maybe that is why you don't buy you kid everything, you buy a few things. It also might be why my baby doll is still in the basement:)

Friday, June 18, 2010

Toy Story 3 opens today,

Well really last night, can't wait to see it.

One glass of wine.

Drink a glass of wine with dinner.
Yep public health officials have a hard time recommending this rule, because of all of the social problems related to alcohol.

Don't drink to be bombed, don't social drink.

Drink a glass of wine. Preferably a red.

Woman who drink one glass of wine a day, live longer, have less heart problems.

Non Traditional Foods

Be skeptical about new creations from food products.

Case in point. Soy has been eaten for years, some cultures use soy as their main protein. These people benifit greatly from consuming soy.

But that soy is consumed in products such as soy sauce, tofu, tempeh, or edamane.

Today in America we consume "soy protein islolate", "soy isoflavones", and "textured vegetable protein." There are questions whether these "new soy products" are healthy.

Think about it.

Thoughts

Found this on one of my message boards today.

16 Things that took me 50 years to learn By Dave Barry

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that work would be meetings.

3. There is a very fine line between a hobby and mental illness.

4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

5. You should not confuse your career with your life.
6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. (This one is very important.)

7. Never lick a steak knife.

8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age 11.

12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

13. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to a waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)

14. Your friends love you anyway.

15. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.

16. Thought for the day: Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes; and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Foreigners

Eat like the French or Japenese or Greeks or Italians. Most foreign traditional food cultures eat healthy than Americans.
The traditional western diet is the most unhealthy of all food cultures. That says alot when we are so diverse in our food in America.

Once other countries are invaded by our fast foods, either in resturants or food markets they start having all the health problems of the United States.

So adopt one foreign food culture.

Are you Hungry?

Do you really know what hunger is. Exactly why are you eating? I enjoy food but the purpose of consuming is to nourish you body. You need to figure out what YOUR body needs. Most of us have no idea or lie to ourselves about why we are putting the item into our mouth. Your body craves what it always has received. Take the product away and a few weeks from now you will wonder why you thought it tasted good.

I know several of my friends are against smoking or drinking, we all know that those products are unhealthy for us. Those poisons effect some people much worse than others.
But don't fool yourself, the food we eat is poison also. Some products effect some worse than others. But if you are overweight something you are consuming is not nourishing your body, it is causing your body to poison itself just the way "known poisons" are.

Do you realize that any food item that you are eating a super size of is only a few minutes away from you eating it again. You can have it again at the next meal, or the next day or next week. Why do we think we must consume it ALL right now. Take a bite and put it away until next week.
We no longer have to wait until August for watermelon, or fall for apples, or spring for lettuce.
Remember when an orange in your Christmas stocking was a real treat. Oranges were very expensive in December. Now they are available at a decent price all year long.

We have plenty of food available all of the time.

Please stop making excuses, research and find a nutritous eating plan that works for you, start walking just a few minutes a day, take control of your body and health.

Supplements

Be the kind of person who takes supplements. Then skip the supplements. Most supplements are ineffective.
The kind of people who take supplements are healthy, not because of the supplements but because they are more aware of their health, eat right, excersise. Save your money on the supplements and treat yourself to a new outfit once you reach a better weight.

Exceptions are if you are deficient in a vitamin or mineral, those over 50 do need more antioxidents, and if you don't eat fish take fish oil. (new research show that the fish oil does not do what fish does so might be a waste of money also) Not sure who did this research.

Junk Food

Eat all the junk food you want as long as you fix it yourself. Yep nothing better than french fries or homemade potatoe chips. How long has it been since you had them made at home. NO not the ore idas, you know you buy the whole potatoes slice or cut them up, soak them in ice water to set the starch, dry them off heat the oil and fry them, drain on paper plates, salt and eat. Yum!
Or how about those brownies, no silly not duncan hines, the ones you make using cocoa, and flour and butter and eggs, or ice cream, good ice cream doesn't come in a box, you make a custard, chill it and then beat it while it is freezing.
If you spend the energy to make the junk food, you really won't overeat your calories, you will fix them as a treat, enjoy the taste and flavor. It will be special, fun, enjoyable, delicious.
Eat the junk food, but not what they decide we want, fix it yourself using quality ingredients.

Costs of Foods

As many of you know I eat and cook mostly fresh foods. I am trying to follow the healthiest diet I can. It seems a little overwelming when you first start looking for the most nutritional foods, with the smallest amounts of ingredients in them. We are not perfect just try to follow this for 90 percent of our food intake. Listening to others trying to adapt a healthier life style the biggest disadavantage in their view is cost. Produce costs so much, it is so expensive to eat healthy. Well once you start eating healthy you really do eat less. But if this is what you are telling yourself you are lying to yourself. That is worse than lying to others. Lying to yourself. Don't you value you. Stop. I took the kids to the zoo yesterday, I packed our lunch and snacks. We ate pizza last night, had snacks for today also. Breakfast was free at the hotel. So I grocery shopped and got the kids what they asked for. I saved 15.00 at the grocery so I bought things on sale. I bought lunchables, rice krispee treats, soda, pudding and jello, poptarts, grapes and juice. For 4 kids. Spent $98.00 at the store, $22.00 for pizza and a salad for me. $12.00 for ice cream at the zoo. I could feed Bill and I fresh vegetables, fruits and fish for a whole week on just what I spent at the grocery and we could still eat out at a healthy restaurant on what I spent at the zoo and for the pizza. I also kept the kids for supper tonight and spent 20.00 at McDonalds for supper. This is suppose to be the reason that people are obese because of the cheap food. NO the cheap food is the healthy food. Really explore your food and health care budget. I can't believe the bullcrap what others believe.

Stone Ground

When we only knew how to stonegrind grain. (stoneground flour) The product was much more nutritous as was the oil that was refined that way also (actually at first a byproduct). We retain more of the whole grain when we stone grind.

So favor stone ground flours and oils.

Bread

The whiter the bread the sooner you will be dead.

Monday, June 7, 2010

Cereal

Do not eat cereal that changes the color of your milk.
You do not need the added chemicals that come with that highly processed junk.

Naturally Sweet

Eat sweet foods as you find them in nature. Do you know that vegetables can taste sweet. Peas right off the vine oh my how delicious.

This is the perfect time of the year to learn to eat naturally sweet. Fruits and vegies are so plentiful, and each week a new variety will be at its peak.

Those strawberries do not need added sugar. They are sweet, naturally sweet. Cherries, blueberries.
Enjoy the taste of naturally sweet fruit and veggies this week.

Your Tastes

Sweeten and taste food yourself, according to your tastes. Don't let someone else decide what food will taste like to you. If you totally go without salt or sugar for 3 or 4 days, and then really taste the food you are eating you will be surprised how little sweetner or salt you need to completement the flavors.

Busy Weekend

Busy family weekend. Graduation Party. Family in from out of town. Lots of visiting.

Tastefully Simple

I am having a Tastefully Simple party on Monday at 6:30 Please come if you are in the area. If you need directions post your email and I will get back to you.

bacteri and fungi

It isn't all bad. Many ancient food cultures swear by the health benefits of fermented foods.

Add some yogurt (yoplait is dessert not yogurt!) or sour dough bread, how about some sauerkraut. Good sources of vitamin D and also some probiotics.

Three Little Fishies

Herring, Sardines and Anchovies.

Eat those three little fishes. Eating WILD fish is healthy. But we are overfishing the larger food chain when we choose to always eat the larger fish. (salmon and tuna). Of course the older and larger the fish are the more chance they have to have absorbed all the chemicals we add to our oceans. We need fatty fish in our diet. So choose those three little fishies to consume occasionally.

Eat Wild

Eat wild, plants and meats anytime you have the opportunity.

A lot of those weeds are super nutritious and flavorable too.

Please give up the farm raised fish, it does not have the nutrition that wild caught has.

Wild animals are also better than farmed, but really hard to come by. But try to search out at least free range.

It is so much better to reduce our quanitity for a much higher quality.

CSA

Just picked up my first CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) box today. If you are not familiar you pay per week for a box of fresh produce. It is picked when the produce is at its peak, so you get the best of the best. Of course you pay even if it is a bad week, but than good weeks you get much more also. So it is kind of helping out the small farmers so you can benefit when the harvest is bountiful.
Two kinds of Fresh lettuce, peas, spring onions, herbs, toured the farm and am excited to see what comes in next.

If you have not explored CSA or visited your local farmers markets or roadside stands they are the best place to get the freshest produce.

Eating in season from the land in your area is the healthiest and most nutritious way to nourish you body.

Think how much healthier you could be in a year if you eat this way. The taste is unbelievable fresh and sweet.

If you are close to Cairo, just east on Lincoln Hwy is a fairly new farmers market. They have a booth at Bluffton Farmers Market and Stacy is also an excellent baker if you need any fresh bake goods.

Good soil

Choose food grown on good ground. Not soil that has been damaged from chemicals, ground that has been taken care of. Organic sounds good, but sometimes the governments requirements and ours just show up different. So you choose where your food comes from.
